This panorama shows a monument honoring the workers killed in the construction of the Mattmark Dam, Saastal Valley, Switzerland.

On August 30, 1965, at 5:10 pm, a terrible natural disaster occurred. A large avalanche of ice and rocks broke away from the Allalingletscher, burying workers and construction sites. This terrible event resulted in 88 deaths, including 56 workers from Italy. It was a big shock for Switzerland and also for Italy. The names of those who died in the accident were engraved on a stone slab in the new chapel in Zermeiggern.

Only 1 year later, work on the dam began again and was completed in 1967. In memory of these workers and this terrible event, the Mattmark Memorial Half Marathon has been taking place here since 2019.

Este panorama mostra um monumento em homenagem aos trabalhadores mortos na construção da Barragem de Mattmark, Vale de Saastal, Suíça.

Em 30 de agosto de 1965, às 17h10, ocorreu um terrível desastre natural. Uma grande avalanche de gelo e pedras separou-se do Allalingletscher soterrando trabalhadores e os estaleiros de obras. Deste terrível acontecimento resultaram 88 mortos incluindo 56 trabalhadores de Itália. Foi um grande choque para a Suíça e também para a Itália. Os nomes das pessoas que morreram no acidente foram gravados numa laje de pedra na nova capela de Zermeiggern.

Somente 1 ano depois as obras da barragem recomeçaram e foram concluídas em 1967. Em memória a estes trabalhadores e a este terrível acontecimento, aqui se realiza, desde 2019, a Meia Maratona Mattmark Memorial.
