Church of the Assumption N. S.
Rio de Janeiro

When Portuguese navigators, breaking seas, discovered a new land was part of the religious tradition to give the city and the church should be built, the name of a saint. So nothing more natural than to give the name of Cabo Frio Helena, since its founding is celebrated on November 13, the day of St. Helena. For a time this place was named so, until the Captain-Mor, at the inauguration of the church, come from Portugal sent a picture of the saint. The ship hit the Brazilian beaches to the order, but a mistake by the saint that was there was the Assumption NS. Sent back to Portugal, the ship eventually returned six times the force of the sea. The researchers did not prove the story contacts for decades by the people, but in fact, the church eventually became the Mother of Our Lady of the Assumption. It is the seventh oldest church in the country, was completely built in Baroque style and decorated in gold. Possessed one of the oldest images of Brazil.

The Church is located in front of Porto da Rocha square in Cabo Frio RJ Brazil.
