Kula Grad view toward Zvornik Lake and Village Divic
Bosnia and Herzegovina

It is assumed that the medieval town of Zvornik was built in the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. At that time this region was ruled by Serbian king Dragutin (from 1284 to 1316) who married his daughter Elizabeth for the Bosnian Ban Stephen I Kotromanic. It is also assumend that in medieval town was a church with a bell tower which was visible form meny sides and from longer distances, thus serving the local populations as objects of reference and notification. Zvornik name was derived form Zvonik (English: bell tower) that dominated the hill.
