Pinhel, Sacadura Cabral Square, Aerial view

Pinhel is a historic city due to the position it occupies in border lands of Beira, and is 30 km from Guarda district capital. It was elevated to the category of city in 1706. The Castle dates back to the founding of Portugal, as the border with the Kingdom of Leão was close by, and it was necessary to defend and populate the territory. The place where the Pinhel Castle is located is a high spur between two streams that flow into the Côa River, a naturally defensive place and in an area rich in metals, already inhabited since the Bronze Age. Pinhel is one of the cities with the largest number of manors and houses emblazoned per m2.
