QUINTA DE SAN PEDRO ALEJANDRINO - BOTANICAL GARDEN

Keeping alive the intention of preserving the historical and cultural legacy Fifth St. Peter of Alexandria, Bolivarian Museum Foundation given the special conditions of this area blessed by nature, embarked in recent years the task of providing to visitors the possibility of interact with some of the most characteristic ecosystems of northern Colombia, without having to leave Santa Marta.

The Botanical Garden Fifth St. Peter of Alexandria, created in 2004 under the initiative of the Bolivarian Museum Foundation in partnership with the University of Magdalena and with the accompaniment of carbon Eduino known botanist, has an area of 22 hectares of dry forest relicts Tropical.

The Botanical Garden QSPA mission is "to contribute to the conservation and promotion of biodiversity representative of the Colombian Caribbean, through the implementation of plans and programs for research and environmental education." The Garden is also aware of its importance in the recovery and conservation of tropical dry forest, now seriously threatened by the pressure of human activities in coastal areas, is why 2020 seeking shelter within its properties the greater representation of flora, typical of tropical dry forests in the north. It also aspires to be the most important refuge for urban wildlife district of Santa Marta and become the center for research and outreach recognized environmental aspects of the city.

Anyone visiting the garden you can see trees, plant species that are endangered, more than 150 plant species scientifically organized into collections such as cacti, Palmetum, Orchids, Fruit, Ornamental, timber, medicinal plants, Mangrove Samples , Relict of tropical dry forest, gallery forest and xerophytic areas, among others.

In the tour of the gardens and forests of the Treasury, the visitor will also see some animal species in their natural state such as iguanas, parrots, hawks, parrots, hummingbirds, snakes, squirrels, rabbits and a high diversity of insects.
