After six years of extremely difficult construction work at an arterial road the new Richard Strauss tunnel was officially opened. The opening ceremony was held by mayor Christian Ude. Afterwards the tunnel was open for the pedestrians before it will be opened for the traffic. The construction work for the 1.5km long tunnel cost about 325 million EUR.
