Te Matau a Pohe Open for boats

Te Matai a Pohe- Whangarei's new Bridge.

At 11.0am the Bascule was raised, and the flotilla of boats could be seen coming down the river prior to passing under the bridge. Once again the Waka were in the front of the spectacle.

Seeing the masts of the yachts passing through the gap showed the need to have a  lifting section of bridge, without this then the upper harbour would have soon been a home to nothing but smaller craft.

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards.
