Lighthouse at Eagle Rock
Victoria
The Split Point Lighthouse stands as a captivating sentinel along the Shipwreck Coast, a must-see attraction offering a journey through maritime history. Witness the awe-inspiring beauty of this rugged and perilous coastline, where countless ships have met their fate. Still an operational lighthouse, it remains a vital beacon for vessels navigating the hazardous waters of Bass Strait, dutifully illuminating the night sky through an automated system. Beyond its practical function, the lighthouse has gained renown for its appearance in the television series 'Round the Twist.' Visitors may even have the chance to glimpse pods of dolphins or whales from its upper balcony. Nestled below the lighthouse lies the Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary, spanning 17.9 hectares. Stretching from the high-water mark around Split Point between Castle Rock and Sentinel Rock in Aireys Inlet, this sanctuary extends offshore for approximately 300 meters. Among its natural wonders are the towering Eagle Rock, a volcanic stack adorned with limestone, and Table Rock, sculpted by the relentless force of the waves.
