The Caledonian MacBrayne-operated ferry, Loch Alainn links the remote islands of Eriskay and Barra at the southern end of the Outer Hebrides. 

The Outer Hebrides, also known as the Western Isles, are the most northerly and westerly of the islands served by the Scottish government-owned ferry network.
