The Parthenon, north-east view in Acropolis of Athens
Athens
The PARTHENON dedicated to the goddess Athena (patron of ancient Athens), was erected on the Acropolis of Athens, between 447 and 438 BC, by the Athenian empire at the height of its power. This temple was built by the famous architects ICTINOS and KALLIKRATES in Doric style and decorated by the sculptor PHEDIAS. All the lines of the structure are slightly curved, in order to correct the illusion created by the perspective !
