The city is located opposite the Verige strait, between two internal bays of Kotor Bay. Title Perast is named after one of the Illyrian tribes. The first written mention of the town dates to 1326 is believed that for a long time, there lived the pirates. In 1420 the town was under the rule of the Venetian Republic until its collapse in 1797 During this time there were built great palaces, churches, castles and fortifications, actively developed navigation.
