The Dwarfie Stane, Hoy, Orkney
Scotland

Located in a valley on the road to Rackwick on Hoy, the Dwarfie Stane is a chambered tomb that was carved out of a single block of sandstone as long ago as 3500BC. To date, it is the only rock-cut prehistoric tomb of its kind to have been discovered in the British Isles, although there are others in Southern Europe.

It has a small, narrow entrance into a main chamber, with two smaller cells on either side. The rock that once sealed the entrance now lies nearby. It is thought to have been opened sometime during the 1500s.
