Igreja dos Loios, Nave, Evora

The Lóios Church belonged to the Lóios Convent or São João Evangelista Convent and was built at the behest of the first Count of Olivença, D. Rodrigo Afonso de Melo, in the year 1485 on what was left of a medieval castle. It was destined to be the pantheon of the Melo family and in fact its intention is confirmed through the various tombs that are found there. Among them, in the Capela do Santíssimo, the splendid tomb of Francisco de Melo, a Renaissance work by Nicolau de Chanterene.
